Path of Exile 2's Low Life Giga Bonk Monk is built around a simple idea: give up most of your life pool, then turn that weakness into a huge damage advantage. It is not a cheap setup, and it is not something you throw together during the campaign. Once the key pieces are in place, though, the build can push past 100 million DPS and reach about 325K effective hit points, which is more than enough for serious Grand Expedition farming. You will need to plan your upgrades carefully, especially when buying POE 2 Currency, because several parts of the build are expensive and work best as a complete package.
Why Low Life Works So Well
The Monk stays at 35% or less of maximum life to activate several major bonuses. Execute 3 adds more damage against suitable targets, Dire Strike improves attack damage, and Killer Instinct becomes much stronger while the character remains Low Life. Pain Attunement adds another large boost to critical damage. None of these effects is minor. Together, they shape the entire build and explain why the character can hit so hard with relatively few attacks.
The tricky part is keeping the life total low without making the Monk feel fragile. Lineage Support Gem and Edzeri's Communion, gained through the Trialmaster system, reserve life rather than Spirit at a reduced cost. That keeps the character below the required threshold during normal play. The Decree of Loyalty body armour is just as important. It stops damage-over-time effects from bypassing Energy Shield and also offers armour, maximum Chaos Resistance, and additional Energy Shield. Without that protection, a small burning or bleeding effect could end an otherwise successful run.
Defence, Immunities, and the Glove Slot
Using Decree of Loyalty means losing the usual rare body armour slot, so the build has to recover defensive value elsewhere. The Martial Artist's Way of the Stonefist Ascendancy node helps solve that problem by opening access to strong glove modifiers. Fist of Stone gloves can add armour, evasion, Energy Shield, level-based defences, and useful Low Life bonuses. They may also provide critical strike chance, Onslaught, extra melee levels, quality, or explosion effects.
The protection package is one of the reasons this Monk feels much safer than most Low Life characters. Hollow Keeper and Kraken's Rune of Warding deal with curses. Carved Tenacity protects against critical hits, while blinded enemies lose part of their critical damage. Legacy of Wanderlust handles slows. Crystallized Immunity and a high ailment threshold help with Ignite, and Morgana the Storm Seer protects against Electrocute while reducing Shock effects. A corrupted jewel modifier covers Corrupted Blood. Staunching Deflection adds a 95% chance to deflect hits and protects against Bleeding and Maim. You will notice the difference most in crowded Expedition encounters, where several effects can land at once.
Skills, Charges, and Combat Flow
Falling Thunder is the main attack and the centre of the Giga Bonk playstyle. No Projectiles, Culmination, Execute 3, Elemental Armament 2, and Rocky Flow are strong support choices. Rocky Flow lets the attack ignore enemy elemental resistances, while Culmination rewards the combo-focused nature of the build. Shattering Palm starts the combo and helps create Power Charges through Alish Chimes. Living Lightning can summon minions that contribute to combo generation, and Charge Profusion gives you more chances to gain charges during active combat.
Charge Staff keeps the pressure going by extending buff duration, improving enemy grouping, increasing critical damage, blinding targets, and giving charges a chance to remain available. The usual sequence is easy to learn: open with Shattering Palm, build the combo, activate Charge Staff, then use Falling Thunder for the main hit. Flicker Strike is optional, but it feels good when you need to cross a pack quickly or add area damage. Windancer offers another source of combo generation and adds defensive value. Keep an eye on Charge Regulation, since stepping above the Low Life threshold can reduce several of your strongest bonuses.
Gear and Passive Tree Priorities
A Sinister Quarterstaff is the preferred weapon base because its critical potential suits the build. Look for flat damage, elemental attack damage, critical strike chance, critical damage, and attack speed. Decree of Loyalty should be treated as a core item rather than a temporary choice. Fist of Stone gloves carry much of the missing defence, while the helmet should focus on Energy Shield. Boots ideally have 35% movement speed, solid defensive rolls, and the correct deflect setup.
Absence with Eternal Rage is another important item. Eternal Rage supplies a constant 30% more damage, and the amulet can also provide melee skill levels and the Spirit needed for the rest of the setup. Mageblood fits the belt slot well, giving movement speed, evasion, rarity, and two Charm slots. On the passive tree, take Energy Shield, evasion, critical strike chance, critical damage, Power Charges, and the Low Life nodes that directly support the attack plan. Heart of the Well helps with Corrupted Blood protection, Flesh Crucible Diamond supports Pain Attunement, and Time-Lost Jewel improves notable effects and critical scaling. A Megalomaniac Diamond with Morgana the Storm Seer and Crystallized Immunity rounds out the defensive package.
Final Thoughts
This Monk is best viewed as a late-game project, not a starter character. Switching too early usually creates a character that has the damage concept but none of the safety that makes it enjoyable. Build Energy Shield, resistance, ailment protection, and charge generation first. Then move into the Low Life version once the essential uniques, jewels, gloves, and staff are ready. When upgrading, focus on the items that enable the core mechanics before chasing small increases to secondary stats. Players who want to shorten that gearing stage may find POE 2 Currency for sale useful for securing the key pieces sooner, letting the Monk reach its intended playstyle without wasting resources on upgrades that do not yet fit the build.
